Training from Start to FinishEstablished in 1973, Horton’s Farm, and Joe and Patty Forest repeatedly and reliably produce well trained, confident horses. We specialize in starting young horses of all breeds. Our goal is to help you reach your goal of having a reliable, well trained horse. Our training program begins on the ground with long lining, and an unhurried approach to getting horses started under saddle. We take our time starting youngsters because we have proven that it pays off, the end result being a confident horse. We also start horses over fences in the same manner, with horses learning to jump through a chute without a rider, before we begin to jump under saddle. A well trained horse has had time to learn. These sensible and consistent training methods have made Joe Forest and Horton’s Farm a popular training facility in the Northeast. A good percentage of horses started by Joe have gone on to win year end zone awards. Joe & Patty are all breed trainers. In addition to riding and coaching at hunter/jumper shows, we prepare for and show in hand at the breed shows. Our philosophy allows each horse to learn at their own pace. A well trained horse requires dedication, education and time. You wouldn’t drive a car without steering wheel or brakes, so why would you get on a horse that doesn’t steer or stop? These basic skills take time to learn, giving the horse a solid foundation. Horsemanship is not a mystery. With a great team of trainers and managers, Horton’s Farm runs like a well oiled machine. All aspects of our business remain finely tuned at all times. Almost all of our employees have ridden with us for years, and embrace the work ethic necessary to be able to train any horse, and especially a young one. Please email us with any questions, or give us a call. We'll be exhibiting at this year's Equine Affaire, click here to see their website! |
